Harriman Reservoir / Lake Whitingham

The Harriman Reservoir, also know as Lake Whitingham is 8 miles long and has over 28 miles of shoreline.  The Northern tip is in Wilmington, VT and can be accessed via a park on the Eastern shore (directions below)

It’s a beautiful place to spend an afternoon and provides a perfect place for a picnic and a swim.  There is also a boat ramp making it easy to launch a canoe, kayak or motor boat.

If you don’t have your own watercraft, you can rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards through Zoar Outdoor Adventures.  I believe they deliver them right to the water.

There are many places to explore along the lake, but as a start, I recommend the Mt. Mills East Picnic Area and Boat Launch.  You can get there by heading South on Rt 100 into Wilmington.  When you reach the intersection of Rt 100 and Rt 9, go straight (crossing over Rt 9). This puts you on S Main St.  Take the 3rd right onto Fairview Ave (there will be a small sign there for the boat launch).  Continue to follow Fairview Ave – it will go from paved to dirt road and eventually end at the parking area by the lake.
